Focus lives
in your notch.
A pomodoro timer that never grows past your menu bar. Today’s three and what you are listening to sit right beside it.
macOS 14 or later · Apple silicon and Intel · Macs without a notch too
Only as tall as the menu bar
Even while it runs,
it never outgrows the notch.
ember measures your real notch and draws only inside it: the time left and a small mark, nothing more. It opens only when you want more.

Six things it does.
Today’s three
Write today’s three in the notch and check each one off right there.
A timer like the moon
The moon fills a little as you focus. 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break by default, and you can change both.
What you are listening to
Skip and pause YouTube and YouTube Music in Chrome or Safari, Spotify and Apple Music, right from the notch.
Your task, one line
Rest the pointer on the closed notch and what you are working on drops down in one line.
A record of each day
Finished focus is kept. Look back at each day’s three, when you finished them and how long you focused in the history window.
Macs without a notch
On an iMac or an external display, ember draws a small notch as tall as the menu bar.

What it does not do.
If focus does not need it, it is not here.
- Windows bigger than the notch
- Streaks · flames
- File shelf
- Notification center
- Stats dashboard
- Accounts · servers
- Subscriptions · payments
- Analytics · tracking
- Ads
- Reading other tabs
Your records
stay on this Mac.
No accounts, no servers. Your focus records and today’s three are stored only on this Mac. In YouTube tabs ember reads just the title and playback position, and it never reads other tabs.
FAQ
Is it free?
Yes. All of it, with no payments or subscriptions.
How do I connect YouTube?
In Chrome, turn on View › Developer › Allow JavaScript from Apple Events. In Safari, turn on “Show features for web developers” in Settings › Advanced, then “Allow JavaScript from Apple Events” in Settings › Developer. Press Connect in the music tab and ember walks you through it.
Does it work on a Mac without a notch?
Yes. On an iMac, a Mac mini or an external display, ember draws a small notch in the middle of the menu bar, just as tall.
What about other browsers?
Chrome and Safari for now. Firefox does not let other apps read its tabs.
Does it connect to THREE?
In 1.0 you write your three on this Mac, and they stay on this Mac.
Why not the App Store?
App Store apps cannot read other apps such as your browser, so ember will be a download from this site, notarized by Apple. When a new version is out, the app asks you first.
