Privacy Policy

ember does not collect personal information. What you write and what it records stay on your Mac.

1. Information we collect

None. ember has no accounts, sign-in, servers, ads or analytics. mooha never sees or receives what you write or how you use the app.

2. Information stored on your Mac

The following is stored only on your Mac, in the ~/Library/Application Support/Ember folder and in macOS user defaults.

  • Today’s three: what you wrote, whether each is done, and when you finished it
  • Focus history: when you pressed Done and how long you focused (in minutes). Task titles are not included.
  • Settings: focus and rest lengths, sounds, accent color, shortcuts, the screen that shows the notch, and which apps to read

The History window only shows this information on your Mac. If you use a backup such as Time Machine, this information is included in that backup. The backup is yours; mooha cannot see it.

3. Reading your music apps

Until you press Connect in the Music tab, ember asks other apps nothing. When you press it, macOS asks for your permission for each app (Apple Events). Once you allow it, ember does only this:

  • Chrome and Safari: it looks at the addresses of open tabs only to pick out YouTube and YouTube Music tabs, then reads the title, channel and playback position of those tabs. It does not read other tabs and never stores tab addresses.
  • Spotify and Music: it reads the title, artist and playback position of what is playing.
  • When you press play, pause, previous or next, it sends that command to the app. When you click the title, it brings that tab or app to the front.

What it reads is used only to show in the notch. It is not stored and never leaves your Mac. ember does not download artwork or thumbnails. You can turn each app off in Settings ▸ Music, and withdraw permission in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Automation.

4. Going online

ember goes online for two things only.

  • Update checks: its update tool (Sparkle) checks mooha.co.kr for a new version and downloads it from there. The request carries basic information such as the app version, and the IP address that every internet request carries. Automatic checks are on only if you allow them when asked, and you can also choose “Check for Updates…” in the menu bar.
  • Links you click: the website, terms and privacy policy open in your browser, and Send Feedback opens your mail app.

mooha.co.kr is hosted by Cloudflare, which may process connection information such as IP addresses along the way. That information is governed by Cloudflare’s privacy policy, and mooha does not receive it.

5. Notifications

The notification when time is up is a local notification created on your Mac. No external server is involved, and you decide whether to turn it on.

6. Contact email

If you email us with Send Feedback, we use your address and message (including the app and macOS version if included) only to reply, and delete them promptly once resolved.

7. Deleting your information

Settings ▸ About ▸ Erase all records removes the three you wrote on this Mac and your focus history at once. When you delete the app, please also delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Ember folder. ember keeps nothing outside your Mac. Resolved contact emails are deleted from both the inbox and the trash.

8. Your rights

Everything you write stays on your Mac, so you can see, change and delete it in the app yourself. To see or delete an email you sent us, write to [email protected]. We handle it within ten days.

9. How we keep it safe

mooha has no servers, so there is nothing we keep. The app is signed and notarized by Apple before it is distributed. Contact emails are read only from a mail account with two-factor authentication.

10. Children

ember collects no personal information from anyone, children included. If you are under 14, please email us together with a parent or guardian. If we receive a child’s email without knowing, we delete it right after replying.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, we will post it on this page with the effective date.

12. Privacy officer and contact

Privacy officer: Kim Jaeseok, CEO of Mooha Corp. · [email protected]
In Korea, you can also report privacy concerns to the Personal Information Infringement Report Center (privacy.kisa.or.kr, call 118).
